Niton exhibits alloy analysers

A Niton UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 3, 2008

Niton UK will be exhibiting its alloy analysers at two industry exhibitions in the UK this September: RWM 08 in Birmingham and NDT 2008 in Macclesfield.

On display will be the Niton XL3 point-and-shoot X-ray fluorescence instruments, which take less than two seconds to identify an alloy grade.

Niton say that the small size, ruggedness and ease of use of the instruments enable them to be used in a wide range of demanding applications, ranging from simple metal sorting through to sophisticated elemental soil analysis and decontamination control.

The alloy analysers operate on the principle of X-ray fluorescence, which uses X-rays to excite the atoms in the sample and measures the fluorescent X-rays re-emitted by the material.

They then rapidly determine the elements present as well as their relative concentrations.

For samples with known ranges of chemical composition, such as common grades of metal alloys, the analysers can also quickly identify most sample types by name.
