RoHS compliant coating protects bearings and more

A NKE Austria product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 22, 2008

Coating can be applied on standard or special bearings to guarantee a significantly longer service life compared with uncoated parts.

NKE Austria offers a special coating for bearings and metal parts exposed directly to humid or corrosive environments.

The SQ171 coating provides a simple and cost effective protection against corrosion, and is effective against water, condensation, weakly alkaline and weakly acidic cleaning agents.

The new coating technology is free from hexavalent chromium, and so is compliant with the RoHS Directive.

Typical applications include materials handling, food processing and agricultural machinery.

The coating can be applied on standard or special bearings to guarantee a significantly longer service life compared with uncoated parts.

The applied coating is only around 8um thick, ensuring dimensional interchangeability between coated and uncoated parts.

The plating process involves trivalent chrome passivation, and so is free from Cr6.

The SQ171 coating has been tested using the neutral salt spray test method in accordance with DIN50021.

Compared with other anticorrosion regimes, such as using stainless steel, NKE's SQ171 coating offers outstanding anticorrosion protection at relatively little cost.
