Servo controlled cylinder for accurate positioning

A Norgren product story

Norgren has expanded its RA/8000 cylinder range with the launch of a servo-controlled cylinder.

Norgren has expanded its RA/8000 cylinder range with the launch of a servo-controlled cylinder.

Unlike ordinary cylinders, the servo-controlled model offers exact positioning of the piston through an electrical or pneumatic control signal, ensuring that it will be accurately held in any desired position, even under changing load conditions.

Applications for the highly versatile cylinder include open and closed loop process control systems in a number of demanding industrial areas, such as temperature control or pressure regulation in power stations, chemical plants, gas works, food processing, steel works and paper mills.

Suitable for use in harsh environments, it is vibration resistant, dustproof and splashproof.

A positioning feedback mechanism included with the cylinder links the controller to the piston rod.

Coupled with the position controller, this system allows higher thrust and shorter positioning time than ordinary cylinders.

Comprising a Foxboro/Eckardt (model numbers RA/8000/P1 to P4) or Siemens (model numbers RA/8000/P5 to P8) universal position controller, Norgren's servo cylinder features left or right hand versions, which can be direct or reverse acting.

The RA/8000 is available in a wide variety of diameters, from 63 to a large 320mm.

Stroke lengths are from 100 to 600mm, while the positioners are offered in electro-pneumatic (4 to 20mA) or pneumatic (0.2 to 1.0bar) versions.

In addition, a wide range of mounting options is available to suit various applications.

Featuring high performance, stability and reliability, the RA/8000 conforms to ISO6431, VDMA24562 and NFE49-003-1.
