Secondary containment on pressure transmitters

Nobel Systems announces a new range of Hammer-Lug Union oilfield pressure transmitters that offer secondary containment to pre-empt prospective safety rules

Nobel Systems announces a new range of Hammer - Lug Union Oilfield Pressure Transmitters that offers secondary containment.

The added assurance of secondary pressure containment pre-empts prospective safety rules, which would also embrace the existing requirement for intrinsically safe electronics.

Secondary containment is now being considered necessary as a safety feature, to guard against the danger that could occur if pressure transients overrange and rupture the measuring diaphragm of a transmitter.

These new transmitters feature the facility of secondary pressure containment within the male-sub union casing which houses the same pressure sensor and amplifier modules from the established P9420 series.

The latest model to join the extensive line of specialised pressure transmitters is the P9420-850 Series.

Primarily designed for rugged oilfield service, it extends the basic P9420 family to the field covered by the PT390 and PT386 pressure sensors before it.

The 850 variants are embodied within a one-piece Duplex stainless steel 2-inch 1502 or 2202 male sub-casing, with an optional 25,000p.s.i.

rated internal pressure boundary.

Hammer-Lug union joints are made up by literally hammering round to tighten up what is, in effect, a large wing-nut, using a sledgehammer.

Mis-directed sledgehammer blows cause only cosmetic blemishes because of the P9420 construction! Virtually any calibrated range can be furnished between 0-15 and 0-15,000p.s.i.

for a 4-20mA two-wire output.

The P9420 sensor element, with fused ceramic strain-gauged diaphragm, endows these transmitters with the highest long-term stability and 0.15% accuracy.

The wetted parts have outstanding abrasion wear resistance and are chemically inert to cater for a wide variety of oilfield service applications.

NACE Sour Service compliance standard RFI/EMC performance is of the highest order, to surpass IEC801/EN50082 requirements.

A wide variety of electrical terminations is available, covering the choice offered with the PT390.

Similarly, the P9420 range carries both CENELEC and FM intrinsically safe certification for all zones and gases.

All these features are also available in other proprietary clamped hub and bolted flange formats, including the latest lightweight compact designs for high-pressure installations, both surface and subsea.
