Thermo Nobel announce a new Web Tension Unit, the TU-2, an addition to their range of Shear Force Load cell based Web Tension Measurement systems The TU -2 is designed to complement the existing units - the TMU 1, FMU 1 and FMU 2 - in functionality in that it sits underneath the support bearings on a Tension measuring roll, but it has a number of advantages

Specialist nip pressure control for paper machines
RRS microPOS, announced by Nobel Systems Ltd., is a digital, closed-loop system for controlling nip pressure applied by the rider roll on paper manufacturing and processing machines.
The existing units, TMU and FMU, are mechanical arrangements which are fabricated when needed, and into which are fitted 2 standard production KIS Shear Pin Load cells.
The TU - 2 is similar in principle to the FMU-1 and it is fitted with Shear Pin Load cells, but these Load cells are an integral part of the design and are made, fitted and tested as part of the production process.
This approach gives a more cost effective design and the calibration carried out is done on the whole Tension Unit, rather than just the Load cells in it so it is more applicable to an installed calibration.
Another advantage of making the Shear pins integral, is that the overall height of the TU -2 is lower than it would be for an equivalent capacity FMU.
This is very useful for new machines, where there is a height restriction, and existing upgrades where there is little change in the web wrap and profile.
The TU - 2 has the same Force orientation advantages of the rest of the family inasmuch as it can be mounted on any vertical or horizontal surface.
The Load Cells can then be rotated to any angle so their measuring axes are aligned with the maximum component of the web Tension.
This feeds the Instrumentation with the maximum resultant of the Tension signal, rather than a smaller vertical or horizontal component of it.
The TU - 2 is supplied in a wide range of Capacities between 4 to 60kN with applications in web Tension Measurement and Control in the plastic, paper and foil manufacturing and converting industries.
The combined error of the TU-2 is +/- 0.02% and the operating Temperature range is -40 to + 100 degrees C. Request a free brochure from Vishay Nobel ...
