Torque About Weighing Vessels
Measuring weight may be complicated by attached pipework, vibration and elevated temperature. This application note explains how to deal with the problem.
Loop powered from an intrinsically safe stabilised power supply, BILT4 features linearity correction and provides a high level 4-20mA output, which allows simple installation with low cable costs.
It is designed for single load cell force measurement or simple tank level systems..
Successor to the BILT-3-HF, the BILT4 is approved for location inside Zone 1 IIc T4 hazardous areas.
CE marked according to the EMC Directive, it is also designed to meet the new ATEX directive, when this is introduced.
The transmitter is connected close to the transducer, with the transducer cable and the measuring equipment and power supply connected to the transmitter by means of a simple two-wire cable, that may be up to 500m in length.
The current, which varies proportionally to the applied load, is 4mA with the transducer unloaded and 20mA at nominal load.
Taring can be accomplished with a potentiometer or fixed resistor.
Measurement values are not affected by changes in supply voltage or cable resistance.
This transmitter will operate on a DC supply anywhere between 8 and 30V with a 350-1000ohm full-bridge input and has a bandwidth of 0-500Hz.
Linearity correction is +/-5% in 1% steps.
Other figures for the transmitter include a gain range of 0.4 to 3.8mV/V, gain drift is better than 0.005%/C and zero drift better than 0.1uV/C over a working temperature range of 0 to 70C.
Enclosure protection is to IP67 and special IS compression glands are fitted which allow connection and thus integrity of the screens of the input/output cables. Request a free brochure from Vishay Nobel ...
