Flange-mounted transducers check torque
tools

A new range of transducers incorporates all the necessary fixtures and connection leads required for testing both hand and powered torque controlled tools.

A new range of transducers incorporates all the necessary fixtures and connection leads required for testing both hand and powered torque controlled tools, making specification and use quicker and easier Until now, Norbar's torque transducers have been inline devices that for most applications required mounting in a compatible bench stand before they could be used

Then a suitable lead had to be selected to connect to the display instrument.

So, even for basic use, three items had to be correctly selected.

For power tools a "run down" fixture was also required to allow the tool to get up to speed before testing thus simulating a bolted joint.

The new range of flange-mounted transducers cover a total torque range from 0.04 to 1500Nm.

They incorporate the mounting unit and connection lead into one assembly and on models up to 150Nm, the run down fixture for power tool testing is also included.

This makes purchase and use much simpler and all at a price significantly lower than that of the four parts previously needed.

A combination of 30 years experience in transducers and 60 years experience in torque tool manufacture, has enabled Norbar to produce a new range that is not only the most accurate, but also the most cost effective and easy to specify range of transducers they have ever made.

Because of their inherent design integrity, it is possible to use all these transducers over a range of 5 to 100% of their maximum torque, significantly reducing the number of different units required to cover a given set of requirements.

All of the new flange mounted transducers use Norbar's "Smart" technology, which means that once connected to one of Norbar's display instruments, the system is immediately ready for use with no need for calibration factors to be entered.

Another first from Norbar, introduced on units over 25Nm is the "Funky Drive", so called because there is no recognised engineering term that describes the drive form.

For accurate calibration, commercially available square drive adapters are not ideal.

As they are not designed for the purpose, it is not possible to ensure the required concentricity and a sufficiently good fit to eliminate play, both essential to accuracy.

The new "Funky Drive" adapters are supplied with each transducer in a range of sizes to suit its torque capabilities.

(For example, the 400Nm transducer is supplied with 0.75 and 0.5in adapters).

The guaranteed snug fit and concentricity eliminates the calibration errors induced by commercially available drive adapters.

Even the best torque tools are only effective if they are accurately calibrated.

This new range of transducers from Norbar is a significant step forward in making it easy for users to ensure that their vital equipment is operating as it should. Request a free brochure from Norbar Torque Tools ...
