Transport of delight for jig maker
NPL Technologies recently completed a project which was a major breakthrough in producing jigs and fixtures for the UK and European rail industry.
Craig Hooper, 19, from Coventry, three years and Chris Edwards, 20, from Bedworth, four years.
The competition for apprentice pattermakers, which has been running for over 20 years, includes teams from the Midlands and the North of England.
Paul Webb, Production Manager, NPL Technologies, said: "We are proud that our apprentices showed that in spite of the competition pressure they revealed their detailed knowledge of patternmaking, foundry and engineering matters".
The hard fought competition included the preparation of intricate drawings, a classic word search, foundry knowledge questions, equipment and materials identification rounds with a quick-fire round of technical questions as a finale.
It was the second success for Cutler, who recently won 2nd place in the Skillform National Patternmaking competition.
Cutler and Edwards will complete their apprenticeship this year, and Hooper in two year's time.
