Design optimisation software upgraded
Noesis Solutions is shipping a new version of its flagship product Optimus.
Two major value-adding themes have driven the development of this new revision: the addition of new methods for reliability-based design optimisation and a focus on increasing user productivity", says Hans Wynendaele, CEO and President of Noesis Solutions.
The enhanced robust design and reliability engineering module of Optimus predicts and reduces the impact of parameter variability on the resulting design.
Two new stochastic methods complement the previously available Monte Carlo and FOSM (first-order second moment) simulation methods.

Optimisation software ends trial-and-error design
PLM Optimisation is billed as the most complete suite of design exploration, optimisation and robust design tools integrated in the Dassault Systemes Catia V5 product family.
"Optimus 5.0 now offers first order reliability method (FORM) and second-order reliability method (SORM)".
"These new methods require significantly less computation time than a Monte Carlo run and provide a fast alternative to compute the probability of failure and improve other robustness and reliability measures", comments Nick Tzannetakis, Chief Technical Officer of Noesis Solutions.
Optimus 5.0 also includes an all-new graphical user interface that offers significant improvements in terms of productivity and usability.
The user interface is now Java-based and native on all platforms, including Windows, Unix and Linux.
The interface supports multiple languages, with Japanese as the first non-English language.
The new interface enables users to customise its look-and-feel with dockable toolbars, customisable colour palettes and much more.
The power copy/paste feature allows users to copy complete process trees with associated methods, models and subparts to start new analyses with a single button click.
Optimus 5.0 has the best graphical post-processing available today, with advanced interactive plotting features to display parameter contribution, correlation, scatter and sensitivity diagrams, 2D and 3D colour contour plots as well as optimisation progress charts and histograms.
Optimus 5.0 provides users with the capability to read values directly from the plots and to perform interactive optimisations.
In order to preserve the client's intellectual property in terms of workflow automation of the engineering processes, Optimus 5.0 captures engineering processes in templates, which can be stored for later use or distributed among other users.
This feature ensures that past work is not lost and can be re-used for similar processes by the user and coworkers.
