Environmental initiatives can provide economic benefits A new initiative from NSK-RHP has proven that measures designed to improve the environment can provide economic benefits.

A new initiative from NSK-RHP has proven that measures designed to improve the environment can provide economic benefits In this case, changing the type of preservative and packaging used with precision machine tool bearings, benefits the user with reduced assembly and quicker run in times, and better protection against corrosion

Prior to the new initiative, launched in 2000, RHP brand super precision bearings were preserved in heavy mineral oil and sealed in heavy-duty PVC bags.

This combination gave good protection to the bearings, but required the removal of the oil before applying synthetic grease.

This was increasingly inconvenient for customers.

In addition, the use of PVC is considered to be environmentally undesirable in some countries.

In view of these customer concerns, an extensive programme was conducted by NSK-RHP to find alternative solutions.

This has resulted in an improved combination of bag and preservative oil which is more environmentally acceptable and provides better bearing protection, cleaner handling and easier assembly.

In future all RHP brand super precision bearings will be protected by Klubersynth MZ 4 - 17, a preservative oil that is compatible with commonly used synthetic greases.

At the same time the material of the bag will now be a nylon/polythene laminate.

This material is both tough and has excellent performance as a vapour barrier.

It has been in use with industrial bearings for some time and is more environmentally acceptable than the old PVC bag.

The new preservative, Klubersynth MZ 4 - 17, is a combination of synthetic hydrocarbon and ester oils.

It is compatible with both high-speed synthetic greases and general-purpose mineral oil based greases.

Its viscosity is comparable with that of the base oils in high-speed synthetic greases, and the film of preservative is relatively thin.

This enables the performance of the grease to be maintained when it is applied directly to the bearing without removal of the preservative - thus allowing for more efficient assembly.

The Klubersynth MZ 4 - 17 also provides advantages in bearing applications where oil/air lubrication systems are employed.

In these applications the run-in of bearings is quicker because the lubricating oil does not have to wash the preservative from the bearings before their temperature can stabilise. Request free introductory details about products from NSK UK ...
