Increased load from cylindrical roller
bearing
NSK has produced a unique design of cylindrical roller bearing (CRB) which offers up to 20% higher load capacity, quieter operation (up to 7dB lower) and lower temperature running
The combination of a new, patent-pending, cage material and an increased roller complement has enabled NSK to produce a unique design of cylindrical roller bearing (CRB) which offers up to 20% higher load capacity, quieter operation (up to 7dB lower) and lower temperature running than conventional bearings of the same size To the OEM and user these improvements mean that, in many applications, bearings can be downsized to reduce costs without affecting machine performance
The EW series bearings have been designed to meet the ever increasing demands of modern industrial applications for improved levels of load capacity, reliability and operating life.
They provide an ideal, higher performance, substitute for ball bearings in applications where increased performance demands mean that the latter bearings cannot offer either the life, or the levels of reliability required.
The key to the improved performance of the EW series bearings is the integration of an increased number of larger roller elements.
These can be accommodated due to a new design of cage which is stronger than competitive designs due to its optimised design and material of construction.
As a result, the radial load capacity of the EW Series exceeds that of conventional CRB bearings by between 17 and 20% - without, incidentally, any reduction in axial load capacity.
In addition, users also benefit from an improvement in theoretical operating life, by as much as 70%.
The cage material is a new patent pending steel which has been developed by NSK.
The exceptional strength this steel gives to the cage not only enables more rollers to be accommodated but also provides more reliability from the bearings in applications, such as gearboxes, where cage strength is often the limiting factor.
The efficiency of the cage design is such that the EW bearings achieve lower running temperatures, despite their increased roller complement.
The greater guidance provided by the roller guiding areas within the cage is the reason why.
These reduce harmful skewing of the rollers to a minimum, leading to lower temperatures and improved operating life.
In addition to meeting user demands for improved load capacity and life, the EW series addresses another major concern in industrial design: noise.
Here again, the unique cage design is pivotal.
It ensures that the cage is so well balanced that vibration within the bearings is substantially reduced, resulting in quieter running.
Just how quiet has been determined in tests.
Against competitive designs the EW units exhibited noise levels some 7db lower, providing a real advantage for designers who need to reduce the noise emissions from their machines.
With their high load ratings, the EW series bearings are suitable for use in demanding applications in steel making and materials handling, and in gearboxes and large kilowatt electric motors.
The EW series bearings are being manufactured in three rib configurations NU, NJ and NUP 205-213 and 305-311. Request a free brochure from NSK UK ...
They will be available from the 4th quarter of 2001.
