Newall Measurement Systems has received a product innovation award at Ireland's premier engineering and industrial equipment exhibition.

Newall Measurement Systems has received a product innovation award at Ireland's premier engineering and industrial equipment exhibition.

The award, which commends R and D in the engineering sector, was presented during Enquip 2002 by Mary Harney, An Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment for Ireland.

The Product of the Show Award, of which four were presented during the three-day event, recognises the development of Newall's robust linear encoders and digital readouts.

By using a durable ball-based assembly that incorporates high-precision steel balls in a stainless steel (Spherosyn) or carbon fibre (Microsyn) tube, Newall's linear encoders can be installed in almost any machine-tool environment on both conventional and CNC controlled equipment.

The award was received by Eamon Leahy of Millenium Machinery, one of Newall's key distributors, based in Garrycastle, Co Westmeath.

Bob Massam, Sales and Marketing Director at Newall, said the award reflected the importance of the buoyant Irish market and Newall's ongoing commitment to technological innovation.

"Our success in Ireland can be traced to our ball-based encoders - the fundamental difference between Newall and its competitors - which have superseded glass-based systems that continue to suffer from contamination in workshop environments".

He continued: "We hope to repeat our triumph next year with our latest absolute linear encoders and multi-axis readout systems which once again push the boundaries of machine-tool measurement".

The presentation formed an important part of the industrial equipment exhibition, which was sponsored by the Irish Engineering Enterprises Federation, and is designed to encourage engineering innovation and product development.
