Consisting of touch screen control systems and custom-built manufacturing machinery, the new production facility is housed in a specially designed, temperature and humidity monitored room to ensure the integrity of the encoders.
Within this tightly controlled environment the Absolute's ball-based scales and reader heads are assembled and calibrated using inert granite blocks and high-quality lasers.
The 3.6m-long solid granite beams provide the stable medium on which the Absolute is calibrated against the Renishaw laser.
This process enables Newall to guarantee resolutions down to 0.1um, with three accuracy grades available, from +/-3 to +/-10um.
Describing the investment as "considerable", Bob Massam, Sales and Marketing Director at Newall, explained why the new production facility is so important to the Leicester-based company.
"Engineering an on-site production facility that is capable of producing the high-accuracy specifications of the Spherosyn Absolute is a great achievement.
It has provided a great test for our software and system development skills and the intention now is to create a production team capable of supporting the Spherosyn Absolute encoder".
Designed to cater for present OEM measuring demands and future machine-tool requirements, the Spherosyn Absolute has been developed from Newall's digital encoder range and, therefore, represents the next stage in machine-tool measuring. Request a free brochure from Newall Measurement Systems ...
