All-in solution for single-axis
measurement
A new single-axis machine tool measurement system combines an encoder, digital readout, linear rail and carriage.
Newall Measurement Systems has joined forces with German engineering firm Igus to launch a single-axis machine tool measurement system featuring an encoder, digital readout, linear rail and carriage The Newall single-axis package brings together the flexibility and accuracy of Newall's Magnasyn encoder and SA100 single-axis digital readout, with Igus's maintenance-free DryLin linear guide

Digital encoder developments demonstrated
Newall will be showcasing its comprehensive range of digital encoders and DROs at Drives and Controls 2002, including several major new developments in linear encoder and readout technology.
This unique collaboration has created a completely integrated package that incorporates machine tool movement and measurement in a single, easy-to-install solution.
Designed for a variety of machining, food-processing and automation applications, the Newall single-axis package accommodates the resilient Magnasyn tape within the grooved profile of the DryLin's wear-resistant rail.
Newall's fully sealed reading head, which is mounted on the DryLin's carriage, accurately measures the relative position of the carriage and feeds this information to the digital readout.

Linear encoder cuts positioning costs
Machine-tool builders, system integrators, machine designers and engineering companies are managing to cut costs and increase productivity with the help of Newall's Spherosyn Digital linear encoder.
Single-axis digital readout system
Newall's SA100 single-axis digital readout system is specifically designed to increase productivity and machine tool efficiency within the machinery and metrology industries.
A critical factor in the system's measuring capabilities and durability is the IP67-rated Magnasyn encoder, which consists of a reading head capable of travelling at speeds of 4m/s, and a magnetically encoded tape that extends up to 32m.
The ultra-flexible encoder provides durable and repeatable measurement in hostile environments.
In addition, as the reader head provides an accuracy level of +/-(25 +/-20)um/m, the Newall single-axis package is ideal for infeed/outfeed rollers on sawing applications, woodworking machines, marking-out tables and long-bed machining, where the body of the outfeed conveyor is unable to accommodate the conventional mounting of an encoder.
Differential quadrature output signals at the 5V level also allow the Magnasyn encoder to communicate with Newall's compact SA100 single-axis digital readout and proprietary CNC or PLC controllers.
Housed in an attractive, rugged die-cast chassis with a wipe-clean, tactile feedback front panel, the versatile SA100 provides linear compensation, axis resolution, head fail detection and resolution settings ranging from 0.1 to 10um.
Unrivalled in the DRO market, the SA100 display is robust, adaptable and covered by a five-year no fault warranty.
The Newall single-axis package brings together the durability of Newall's measuring technology with the reliability of IGUS's DryLin linear guides, which utilise low maintenance, oil-free bearings that resist potentially damaging contaminants.
The DryLin self-lubricating linear guides also ensure quiet operation through a low-friction action that provides trouble-free operation in a wide temperature range. Request a free brochure from Newall Measurement Systems ...
