Linear encoders connect via USB
The new DSG family of linear encoders was showcased for the first time at the SPS Exhibition in November 2006.
The new DSG family of linear encoders was showcased for the first time at the SPS Exhibition in November 2006.
Developed by Newall Measurement Systems' advanced engineering team, these unique new encoders can be plugged directly into the USB port of a laptop or PC without the need for an inline convertor.
The devices are suitable for all typical PC-based systems, as well as applications within the automation, education, research and robotics sectors.
The encoders are supplied with the drivers required for installation and freeware to include a simple single-axis linear position display which can be used during commissioning or as a digital readout (DRO) in application The devices are USB 1.0 compliant allowing for interfacing with both USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces.
They are also fully powered through the USB port so there is no need for additional interfaces or counter cards, providing a more cost effective solution for the systems integrator compared with traditional encoder interfaces.
Multiple axes can also be catered for by using a powered USB hub to overcome the power limitation direct from the USB port on the PC.
The DSG family of encoders is IP67 rated, and is impervious to liquids such as oil.
It can operate even when submerged in 1m of water providing a high degree of reliability even in the most hostile of environmental conditions.
With scale options of 5mm to 12m in length in a single tube or 32m-plus in a modular package, the encoder is suitable for a wide variety of applications.
