Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
In order to achieve substantial improvements in the efficiency of material resource use the STI seeks to promote novel technologies, innovative use of existing technologies and better uptake of sustainable design, production and consumption.
The key themes of the programme are: improved resource efficient processes and products; reduced hazardous material content or output of products and processes; new products and processes which enhance social inclusion; new product/service concepts for sustainability; and associated sustainability research.
The STI will operate through a LINK programme providing up to 50% funding for collaborative research projects between businesses and universities, or through DTI grants for collaborative projects to stimulate the development and take-up of sustainable technologies by business.
There is also EPSRC funding for industrial/academic networks and ESRC funding for fellowships and research grants.
The projects should address all three aspects of sustainable development: the economic, the environmental and the social.
At the seminar on the 15th November there will be presentations from schemes which have already received STI funding.
There will also be a chance for delegates to display ideas for new projects and to network with potential partners, and members of the STI programme management committee will be on hand to give advice on how to submit proposals.
