At last month's Laser 2003, new ranges of tube collimators and precision mounts from Optical Surfaces generated considerable interest from visitors.

At last month's Laser 2003, new ranges of tube collimators and precision mounts from Optical Surfaces generated considerable interest from visitors, particularly those involved with laser research, optics manufacturing, fundamental physics, astronomy and defence applications Compact in design the new tube collimators are based on Optical Surfaces ultra-high-precision off-axis paraboloids using zero expansion to ensure long-term stability

Constructed in aluminium with matt black walls, the units can be supplied athermalised to suit a wide variety of conditions.

All optics within the tube collimators come pre-aligned in stress-free mounts.

The combined optical performance being better than lambda/5 p-v at 633nm wavefront in the field centre.

Unlike other collimator solutions, the new Optical Surfaces range is transportable from site to site whilst maintaining alignment.

Complimenting its existing range of mounts for large optics, Optical Surfaces announced a new range of precision mounts that provide a secure and stable platform for off-axis, spherical or flat mirrors up to 250mm in diameter.

Built to accommadate 100, 150, 200 and 250mm diameter mirrors the new mounts are made from anodised aluminium castings, finished in black.

To facilitate rapid and simple mounting onto an optical table or other support the mounts come with a base plate.

Angular alignment can be made about two axes by means of dual action adjusters with fine screw and ultra-fine differential micrometer action.

Using these mounts it is possible to rapidly align a mirror within a few arc seconds.
