Free document management system fills the gap
AutoCAD and MicroStation users who have been left stranded through the collapse of Motiva have a potential lifeline in the form of a free document management system from the UK called Columbus.
The software includes tools for drawing setup, managing layers and reference files, discipline tools, symbol libraries, text and editing tools.
Also included are: CADplot Server, which provides AutoCAD plotting and plot to PDF from any computer in the office; CADrebar provides concrete detailing and scheduling to BS8666 and BS4466; and CADbatch automates complex repeated tasks in AutoCAD.
The pricing is the most novel part of the programme, as it decreases as each new company joins.
Once a quarter, the costs are calculated based on the then current cost of producing the software, and divided between all users based on number of licenses.
