ODU has introduced a plastic-bodied version of its Mini-Snap push-pull-locking, circular connector that can give cost savings of up to 60% over metal-bodied variants.
Both turned and stamped and formed contacts are available.
However the stamped and formed contacts can easily be terminated on automated stripping and crimping machines, contributing to cost savings.
Also insertion of the crimped contacts is simplified by the use of retention clips, again saving time and money.
In fact the plastic-bodied Mini-Snap with stamped and formed contacts offers cost savings of up to 60 percent over metal-bodied variants.
Providing 100 percent touch protection, this lightweight component can be used with high voltages and frequencies.
It provides an economical solution when designing in or changing this type of connector system in a wide range of applications not only including medical equipment but also consumer electronics, communications systems, instrumentation and control systems.
The plastic connector is also 50 percent lighter than metal-bodied variants, which offers benefits for hand-held instrumentation, portable computers, aerospace and other applications where every gram of weight saved is necessary.
Three sizes, 1,2 and 3 (12.5, 15.5 and 19 millimetre diameter), are available in up to 27 way.
Solder or PCB termination can be also be provided in addition to crimp contacts.
As well as being tough enough for autoclaving, the plastic Mini-Snap is chemical resistant and can be supplied sealed to IP68.
It is also non-magnetic and there is a shielded option.
This plastic-bodied variant is interchangeable with the standard metal-bodied units.
