Modular connector lets designers get ahead

An ODU UK product story

The ODU-Mac modular connector system offers design advantages because it can be used where mounting dimensions are known but when final connector packaging has yet to be decided.

The ODU-Mac modular connector system offers design advantages because it can be used where mounting dimensions are known but when final connector packaging has yet to be decided.

A fact common to all application areas is that often system developers may not know the connector's final packaging until the last minute.

However the possibility of laying down the mounting dimensions before the interface is finalised is a bonus for the designer.

Modules can be arranged in different patterns to accept a mix of services including signals, high current, compressed air, fibre optics and high frequency.

The system consists of a range of customisable, rugged frames, plastic insulation bodies with various insert patterns, and crimpable, removable contacts.

Guide pins and guide bushes prevent misconnection and provide easy alignment for accurate mating.

It was originally developed for testing systems for mass produced products such as video recorders and monitors on the production line, and also for ECUs in automotive electronics.

Now the product is more widely used by OEMs, particularly in medical equipment, instrumentation manufacture and industrial automation.
