Convertor puts PCs and PLCs in the loop

The K3SC compact interface convertor provides a solution to the problem of linking devices with RS422/485 communication facilities to PCs and PLCs which have only RS232C or USB ports.

The new K3SC compact interface convertor from Omron Electronics provides a convenient, cost-effective and easy-to-use solution to the problem of linking temperature controllers, digital panel meters, laboratory instruments and other devices with RS422/485 communication facilities, to PCs and PLCs which have only RS232C or USB ports.

The new convertor is fully bidirectional in operation and, when used with an RS232C port, supports data transfer speeds up to 38,400baud.

Up to 31 RS422/485 slaves can be connected, with a maximum distance of 0.5km between the unit and the most distant slave, making K3SC convertors suitable for use in even the largest of installations.

For maximum versatility, the product is supplied in two versions, one for operation from operation from AC supplies in the range 100 to 240V, the other for use on 24V DC supplies.

Both versions feature 1500V-rated optoisolation between input and output signal lines, and between the signal lines and the power connections, providing valuable protection for sensitive computer equipment connected, via the convertors, to plant-mounted devices.

Omron's new K3SC interface convertors are just 30 x 80 x 78mm and are suitable for either DIN rail or baseplate mounting.

Screw terminals allow fast and easy connection of RS232C, RS-485 and RS422 circuits, while a standard socket is provided for USB connections.

Rapid visual confirmation of operating status is provided by power, RD and SD LEDs, and the units can be configured to operate either with or without echoback.

All convertors in the K3SC range carry the CE mark, and all are fully approved to UL and CSA standards, allowing their use in all major countries of the world.
