Position controllers help out steppers and servos
Versatile point-to-point positioning systems can now be implemented easily and inexpensively with the new CJ1W-NC and CS1W-NC position control units from Omron Electronics.
Versatile point-to-point positioning systems can now be implemented easily and inexpensively with the new CJ1W-NC and CS1W-NC position control units from Omron Electronics.
Available in versions with one, two or four axes, these units are an ideal partner for servo or stepping motor systems which support pulse train inputs.
Particularly well suited for use with Omron's new Smartstep series of servomotors and servo drivers, the CJ1W-NC and CS1W-NC can accept position, speed and acceleration data direct from a PLC.
Not only does this simplify the implementation of the control system, it also means that the target speed and position can be changed instantly, even while the positioning operation is in progress.
Positioning data can be created easily by using CX-Position, Omron's Windows-based software support package.
A choice of S-curve or trapezoidal acceleration and deceleration is offered, and the units allow fine control from very low speeds up to 500kHz, in increments of 1Hz.
Up to 100 position points are supported for each axis.
For demanding applications where fast, interrupt-driven operation is required, the CJ1W-NC and CS1W-NC position control units offer high-speed interrupt feeding.
This feature responds to an interrupt input in 0.1ms or less, and moves the axis by a specified amount before stopping it, a mode of operation which is, for example, invaluable in maximising the precision of machine in-feed systems.
Typical applications for Omron's new position control units include pick-and-place systems, transfer stations, rotary tables, vertical drop sections, indexers, labeller heads, insertion machines, and other industrial equipment requiring a combination of versatility, ease-of-use, reliability and low cost.
