The optional maintenance forecast feature takes into account the aging of electrolytic capacitors, which is inevitable in any power supply.
By calculating the period of time for which the power supply has been used, and factoring in its operating temperature throughout this period, the forecast facility is able to provide advance warning of when this aging process is likely to reach the point where maintenance will be needed.
In addition to the visual indication on the display, 90W models with the maintenance forecast feature also offer an output signal which can be used to provide remote indication of the need for maintenance.
S8VS power supplies with the run-time indicator option show the accumulated operating time in thousands of hours.
This option is particularly suitable where the equipment powered by the supply needs regular maintenance, as the indicator reading can then be used as an aid to maintenance scheduling.
