Laser sensors show their intelligence

Challenging sensing applications are easily addressed with the new ZX range of smart laser sensors, yet their low cost and ease of means that they are also ideal for everyday sensing requirements.

Challenging sensing applications, such as the reliable detection of small parts, accurate measurement of product width, and precise condition monitoring of the remaining material on roll feeders, are easily addressed with the new ZX range of smart laser sensors from Omron Electronics, yet the low cost and ease of use of the new units means that they are also an ideal choice for straightforward everyday sensing requirements To ensure maximum versatility, the ZX sensor range offers a wide choice of reflective sensing heads, including models which utilise a 50mm diameter spot for precise detection of even the smallest targets, and others with a 2mm line beam which allows seamless coverage to be achieved for large targets

There is also a variety of through-beam sensing heads, from narrow-beam types for precise limit detection, to 10mm-wide curtain types for area or diameter sensing.

The smallest and lightest sensing heads of their type, the ZX sensor range is designed to be used in conjunction with a separate amplifier unit.

This processes the returned light signal, as well as being the user interface.

Its large, clear LED displays can be used as an aid to sensor adjustment, but can also be configured to display target distance, as well as a wide range of other useful information, during normal operation.

Internal scaling allows the displays to show results in engineering units, which is ideal for local control.

The amplifiers in Omron's innovative ZX sensor range provide both digital and analogue outputs.

Digital outputs can be set, for example, to produce high, normal and low signals.

This allows simple systems to be implemented with little or no further equipment, to control, for example, limits of travel.

Where precise control is needed, the analogue output will be utilised, which can be calibrated to represent each actual application, and can be enhanced by an optional calculator unit.

This unit enables two amplifiers to be linked, combining data from two separate sets of sensing heads, to provide a direct readout of, for example, product width.

To further enhance its capabilities, the ZX range includes an optional interface unit which allows the amplifiers to be linked directly to a PC.

Used in conjunction with software provided by Omron, this allows data from the sensor to be recorded for immediate or future analysis and traceability.

The software also gives the user access to advanced functions and setup options that are provided by ZX sensors. Request a free brochure from Omron Electronics ...
