The new easy-fit PLC module for 3G3MV inverter drives, from Omron Electronics, transforms the drive into a complete and versatile automation system which, in many applications, will perform all of the necessary control functions without the need for additional equipment.

Featuring a design which capitalises on Omron's extensive and proven experience with both drives and PLCs, the new major benefits include cost and space savings, compared with using a separate PLC with the drive, as well as the elimination of wiring between the PLC and the drive, which not only cuts wiring time, but also eliminates the risk of errors.

Designed exclusively for use with Omron's 3G3MV high-performance open-loop vector control inverters, which are available with ratings up to 7.5kW, the new PLC modules simply click into place on the drive.

They offer all of the facilities of Omron's proven and popular CPM2C-S PLCs, with the added benefit of direct access to the drive I/O, key data and parameters.

The new 3G3MV PLC modules provide six isolated digital inputs, four isolated digital outputs, and an RS422 communication port which can be used for programming, and to provide connections for an HMI terminal or network.

A real-time clock and calendar, of particular value in building and environmental control applications, is also provided.

The first three PLC inputs can be configured by the user as a high-speed up/down counter, typically for use in conjunction with an encoder to allow the drive to track speed or position.

Similarly, the first two outputs work as pulse generators, making it easy to slave drives together in conveying and similar applications.

Programming for the 3G3MV PLC option is carried out with the same powerful CX-Programmer software as other PLCs in the Omron range, which is already familiar to many PLC users.

An additional benefit is that the same software and programmer connection can also be used to configure the drive, thus saving time, and avoiding the inconvenience of having to perform PLC programming and drive setup as separate operations.
