Screwless terminals speed relay installation
The screwless-clamp terminals featured in the latest range of relay and timer bases from Omron Electronics cut wiring time by up to 50% compared with conventional bases which use screw terminals.
The screwless-clamp terminals featured in the latest range of relay and timer bases from Omron Electronics not only provide enhanced connection reliability, even in applications where high levels of vibration are encountered, they also cut wiring time by up to 50% compared with conventional bases which use screw terminals.
The new bases are available in two versions: the PYF-S is designed for use with Omron's MY industrial relays, G3F solid-state relays and H3YN timers; and the P2RF-S is intended for use with the company's slimline G2R relays, G3R solid-state relays and H3RN timers.
The terminals used in both types of base incorporate spring clamps to hold the conductor securely in place, so wiring is fast and straightforward.
The clamp terminal is simply forced open with an ordinary flat-blade screwdriver, the cable inserted, and the cable clamped as the screwdriver is removed.
No manual tightening is needed, and the clamping pressure for the conductor is automatically optimised without the need to use torque screwdrivers or other special tools.
The terminals also maintain the correct clamping pressure indefinitely, even if stranded conductors are used, or if the bases are subject to shock and vibration.
This means that there is no need to apply ferrules for wiring, or to routinely check and re-tighten the connections - yielding real time savings.
Each connection point in the new PYF-S and P2RF-S bases is provided with two independent screwless-clamp terminals, allowing two cables to be accommodated, which can be of the same or different sizes.
Omron's ergonomically designed bases offer provision for easy mounting of legend plates, and also incorporate a unique one-touch instant-release lever.
This allows the relay or timer to be removed quickly, even where the bases are mounted in confined locations, and it virtually eliminates the risk of damaging the connecting pins during the removal process.
Intended for mounting on standard DIN-rail, the PYF-S and P2RF-S bases provide full finger protection as standard.
As an aid to mounting, an accessory socket bridge is available, which facilitates group mounting of two or more units.
The bridges are supplied in a choice of red or blue, which allows users, for example, to provide clear differentiation between AC and DC coil relays.
