Drives turn to new applications

An Omron Electronics product story

The popular 3G3 range of variable speed drives from Omron Electronics now offers convenient, dependable and cost-effective solutions for a greatly expanded range of applications.

Important enhancements, including the launch of higher-powered models and the introduction of a new DeviceNet interface card, mean that the popular 3G3 range of variable speed drives from Omron Electronics now offers convenient, dependable and cost-effective solutions for a greatly expanded range of applications, such as crane, hoist, pump and fan control.

Both the 3G3PV V/F control and 3G3RV vector control inverters are now available with ratings up to 300kW, and have added functionality, as standard, to meet the market's increasingly diverse needs.

The characteristics of 3G3PV drives have been upgraded to optimise performance in fan, pump and similar variable-torque applications, and a power consumption monitor has been added, which provides users with an invaluable tool for checking the energy efficiency and operating costs of their installations.

The PID control facility has also been augmented with the addition of snoozing and sleep functions.

Support for closed-loop vector control has now been added to all 3G3RV drives, along with up-rated outputs which can now supply 110% of nominal maximum current for short periods.

This new feature ensures that nuisance tripping, due to intermittent overloads, is avoided, and makes the 3G3RV drive an ideal choice for use in hoist and crane applications.

In addition, 3G3RV drives are now supplied with a seven-line liquid-crystal display which can, if the user wishes, be detached from the main unit, and mounted on the panel door.

The display shows operating parameters in plain English, or any one of six other languages, avoiding the need to use confusing codes when setting up the drive or monitoring its performance.

Omron's new DeviceNet cards are available in versions to suit 3G3PV, MV, RV and FV drives.

In addition to providing versatile communication and networking facilities, it also monitors the performance of critical components within the drive, such as capacitors and the cooling fan, as well as providing diagnostic aids which include error logging, over-torque detection and an output current trace function.
