Cased inverter drive eases installation

The popular E7Z series inverter drive range from Omron has very recently been enhanced with the addition of a rugged, metal-cased IP54 version.

The popular E7Z series inverter drive range from Omron has very recently been enhanced with the addition of a rugged, metal-cased IP54 version Initially available in power ratings from 7.5 to 30kW, with further ratings being made available soon, the protective enclosure allows users to simply install the drive closer to the motor, simplifying installation and reducing costs

The enclosure houses the drive complete with RFI filter, together with a door-mounted operator.

All standard features remain within the drive, such as the automatic energy saving function, silent operation, rotating motor pickup and advanced PID controller.

Additionally, numerous fieldbus options are available to connect the E7Z into networks; these include DeviceNet, Profibus DP, CANopen and LonWorks.

A new PLC option board is also now available.

This fits inside the drive, and enables a local control system to be developed, for example the sequencing of multiple pump or fan units.

The PLC is based on tried and tested Omron PLC technology, and allows for up to 256 remote I/O points to be controlled, plus provides a link to a DeviceNet network.

A HMI can be connected to the PLC for setting, monitoring and general information handling.

Standard Omron programming tools are used with this product.

The E7Z series is aimed primarily at the variable torque market, where energy savings of over 20% can be achieved when motors driving suitable loads such as fans and pumps are controlled.

The market for energy efficiency exists within two distinct sectors.

First, the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) or building automation sector, and secondly the industrial market sector, where facilities within factories and warehouses include fan and pump systems.

Both sectors are looking for an economical and easy-to-use series of inverter drives.

To optimise energy savings, the drives use a special control algorithm which, when operating in voltage/frequency mode, automatically adjusts the output voltage and hence power to ensure that the motor delivers the best possible efficiency, irrespective of whether it is fully or only partly loaded.

Drives rated 22kW and above are fitted as standard with an integral reactor to optimise power factor and minimise harmonic levels, and a similar reactor is available as an option on smaller units.

Furthermore, drive units rated 22kW and above can be configured in 12-pulse mode with the addition of a suitable external phase shift transformer, as the E7Z has all the necessary rectifier stages already included.

For applications in sensitive areas, such as hospitals and offices, where quiet operation is a key requirement, the E7Z features a unique low-carrier PWM control option.

This helps to reduce the noise from the motor, without adversely affecting the efficiency or performance of the system.

Setup is a simple series of parameters, alternatively, the user can opt to use the CX-Drive software package, providing a powerful and versatile tool for setting up and monitoring the E7Z series drive. Request a free brochure from Omron Electronics ...
