Position control unit provides position, speed and torque commands to 16 axes of servo, making it suitable for filling, capping, mechanical handling and general linear or rotary positioning roles.

Versatile point-to-point positioning systems can be implemented easily and inexpensively with the CJ1W-NCF position control unit from Omron.

The single, standard size PLC unit provides for position, speed and torque commands to up to 16 axes of servo, making it suitable for applications such as filling, capping, mechanical handling and general linear or rotary positioning roles.

The NCF unit connects to the servo axes via a motion control bus architecture called Mechatrolink II, developed for controlling axes of motion in a machine environment.

With Mechatrolink II, the user can simplify machine installation by using preconfigured cables.

Information handling tasks are also simplified as data from axes such as status, torque and faults are available instantly over the bus, reducing initial machine design time, making commissioning a faster process and reducing costs.

Older pulse and analogue systems used many wires and terminations, which can create problems with electrical noise, broken wires and intermittent connections, but by using the pre-configured cables for Mechatrolink II, these problems are eliminated.

Option cards for connecting Omron's V7, E7 and F7 inverter drives to the Mechatrolink II bus are available, so designers can add speed control tasks to the application.

Machine designs can be kept modular and expandable, as the NCF unit is simply configured to the number of axes connected.

Programming is via standard ladder commands, with function blocks for specific tasks, so the programming environment is well known by most control system engineers.

The servo drive parameters can be set via the PLC, so making set-up easier as only one programming package and connection is required.
