Monitoring service watches over critical
bearings
A novel "always-on" condition monitoring service analyses the vibration signature of bearings.
Optima Control Solutions has launched a novel "always-on" condition monitoring service based on its InfoServe365 infrastructure By installing smart sensors to rotating elements of machinery, the company can continuously monitor and analyse the vibration signature of bearings

It's the scales that count
A new range of industrial counting scales suits the needs of a variety of industries where parts counting is essential for inventory control, packaging checks and component handling.
Alarming performance from weighing scales
Adam Equipment has introduced a new range of industrial weighing scales to suit the needs of a wide variety of industries from building supplies to electronics manufacturing.
This is the first, hosted system of its type and takes condition monitoring to the next level.
Traditionally, condition monitoring programmes involve periodic vibration analysis checks, often carried out by third-party contractors; this might be bimonthly or monthly at best.
However, when bearings fail they tend to fail quickly.
With infrequent checking there are long periods of time during which bearings are likely to fail without detection.
This fact leads many plant maintenance teams to question the value of periodic checking.
InfoServe365 and its condition monitoring module answers this question.
The InfoServe365 system is configurable to alert plant maintenance staff either by e-mail or SMS of bearing degradation.
Automated reports are generated with at-a-glance identification of bearings that may need attention.
For long-term analysis the system stores, in a central web based database, the amplitude data for certain critical signature frequencies.
Using only Microsoft Internet Explorer, clients can then access and graphically trend the data with a suite of analysis tools to see how the bearing performance has changed over any period of interest.
The system also makes available a full and current FFT (fast Fourier transform) for the bearing in question.
InfoServe365 is easily installed, and easily accessed with normal web browser tools.
No special IT infrastructure is required on customer sites and all management of the data and tool set is handled by Optima, and so there are no licence fees, no software upgrades and definite cost of ownership figures.
Optima believes that the system has the potential to make a significant impact to the productivity of manufacturing industry.
