Oriental Motor's new, high-response AlphaStep speed control motor combines the benefits of selective closed-loop control with a stepping motor to give unrivalled synchro accuracy

Oriental Motor (UK) claim their new, high-response AlphaStep speed control motor is a revolutionary new product which combines the benefits of selective closed-loop control with a stepping motor to give unrivalled synchro accuracy By starting with a clean sheet of paper, Oriental designers were not burdened by the limitations of previous design principles, a fresh approach which resulted in a new and interesting concept

Basically, a special sensor constantly monitors the motors' rotor position whilst ingenious electronics stand on guard.

Couple this with command pulse operation and performance is quite astonishing.

Accurate motor synchronisation is always maintained because if the positioning devation is ñ1.8ø or greater, the control uses closed loop mode and the position is corrected by exciting the motor windings to generate maximum torque based on the rotor position.

Special design and component construction enable the beautifully engineered and robust AlphaStep to function at the higher temperature ranges normally associated with a servo motor.

(NB The temperature of motor's surface must be under 100øc) AlphaStep's advanced technology resolver with the microstep function produces ultra-smooth, ultra-low vibration movement which compares favourably with a micro-stepping driver (even at low speed), overcoming the normal limitations of slow-speed control.

All this is achieved without a cumbersome encoder and the associated circuitry that goes with it, making the compact AlphaStep ideally suited to applications where space is a prime consideration.

The 162 variant line offers 42mm, 60mm and 85mm (90mm for geared types) frame sizes in the AS Series, plus 100-115V input, and both single and three-phase 200-230V inputs.

In addition to the basic Round Shaft AlphaStep model there are Tapered gear, Planetary gear and Harmonic gear models with a range of speed reductions to suit a multitude of applications.

Some models are available with Electromagnetic Brakes enabling full holding of the motor position in the event of power failure, making this option ideal for vertical drive applications.

The ASC Series combines a 24V DC compact driver and motor in a single package.

This combination is available in Round Shaft and Tapered gear types.
