New from Oriental Motor, the DG-Series of compact hollow rotary actuators takes advantage of the company's acclaimed Alpha Step technology.
Oriental Motor, Japan's largest manufacturer of stepper and AC motors, has launched the DG-Series - a compact hollow rotary actuator range that takes advantage of the company's acclaimed Alpha Step technology.
The DG-Series marries the class leading Alpha Step motor technology with a large diameter hollow index table.
It has been specifically developed for use in rotational applications such as those found in laboratories and semiconductor manufacturing operations - indeed any application where precision rotational movement is required.
The hollow rotary actuator is available in two frame sizes, 60 and 130mm.
Both actuators have maximum speeds of 200rev/min and repetitive positioning accuracy of +/-0.004 degrees.
The 60mm 24V DC model offers a thrust force of 100N with a maximum permissible torque of 0.9Nm (maximum holding torque 0.45Nm), whereas the 130mm 230V AC model offers a thrust force of 2000N with the maximum permissible torque being 12Nm The hollow central core of the actuator is particularly large for actuators of this size - a 62mm aperture in a 130mm frame - enabling easy routing of wires and tubes onto the mounted platen.
This design simplifies the installation of additional equipment onto the actuator and platen.
By integrating the CE and UL accredited Alpha Step technology shorter positioning times are realised, thanks to direct drive in combination with faster acceleration and deceleration.
A built-in rotor position detector also offers advanced feedback technology and easy homing.
To simplify homing further, an optional home centre set can be supplied and mounted onto predrilled holes in the actuator frame.
Further capabilities can be added through the specification of Oriental Motor's Alpha Step Plus driver, which combines controller and driver in one easy-to-use programmable unit.
A simple but not immediately obvious advantage of this assembly is that it offers all components within a single part number, simplifying machine and equipment specification, design and assembly.
