Ormec has launched its new range of ServoWire motion and logic controllers (SMLC) for cost-effective, integrated motion, I/O and networking solutions.

Ormec has launched its new range of ServoWire motion and logic controllers (SMLC) for cost-effective, integrated motion, I/O and networking solutions.

The three new models - 30, 80 and 160, offer a small footprint, improved performance and more standard features.

Using Pentium processors, FireWire drive networking and Ethernet connectivity, the SMLC is a system that can control an entire machine.

Costs are reduced by replacing a motion controller and PLC combination with a single SMLC, which can control up to 16 axes and thousands of I/O points.

By combining Ormec Soft Motion technology with IEC 61131-3 programming, PLCopen motion function blocks and industry standard protocols for I/O and network connectivity, the SMLC provides a fully integrated machine control solution.

SMLC controllers offer a compact footprint of 9 x 2.75 x 7.23in (H x W x D), for the Model 30 and 80, or 9 x 4.25 x 7.23in for the Model 160).

Rugged industrial hardware features include an all metal-enclosure, with no fans required; Intel 32bit processors running the reliable and robust QNX real-time operating system (RTOS); removable CompactFlash for program storage; 32Kbyte battery-backed SRAM for nonvolatile data storage; two Ethernet ports and three or four serial ports; Modbus/TCP communications for interfacing I/O and touchscreen HMIs; Wago 750 Series I/O connected via Modbus/UDP or FireWire.

Also incorporated are built-in digital (8 in/8 out) and analogue I/O; PC-104+ expansion slot(s) for other factory networks, and IEC61131-3 application programming.

Users can choose any of the five standard languages.

PLCopen motion function blocks plus powerful Ormec extensions are used for multi-axis, coordinated motion, registration control and more.

SMLC controllers can connect up to 16 digital ServoWire SM Drives with up to a 4kHz loop update rate.

All-digital drive networking uses cost effective, open standard IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface hardware and cabling.
