ebmpapst Automotive and Drives is sponsoring a potential future star of motor racing in the form of Tim Spencer.

ebmpapst Automotive and Drives is sponsoring a potential future star of motor racing in the form of Tim Spencer.

As well as being a winning kart driver, 17-year-old Spencer has just been taken on as an apprentice vehicle technician with the Red Bull F1 team.

He has been driving karts since he was nine, and has been preparing and racing them since the age of 12.

He is now competing in his first season in the Senior Rotax Max class that uses two-stroke, 125cm3 karts developing 21kW.

The karts are capable of reaching 110km/h even on short circuits.

Fast Spencer's first podium place in the category was a recent third at Whilton Mill.

Says Gareth Jones, Managing Director at ebm-papst: "We have sponsored Tim for a number of years, and we are delighted to continue the process".

"Tim is clearly a rising star and particularly with our focus on the automotive industry, sponsoring him fits very well with our own core activities".

"I'm sure one day Tim will be a big success, he's got the ability, energy, and attitude to make it to the top in motorsport".

"Tim is the son of Phil Spencer, former Chief Race Team Mechanic with the Jordan F1 racing team who also used our fans in their cars and electronic cooling systems".

"So there's great synergy and lots of interesting links".
