Parker Hannifin hydraulic power units, cylinders and solenoid valves have been specified for the transfer machines on the Ford V6 engine production lines installed at the company's manufacturing facility in Cologne.

UK based automotive machine manufacturer, Cross Huller, has built and supplied four new transfer machines for Ford, Cologne, two for each of two existing engine production lines.

The transfer machines process V6 cast iron engine blocks from 'rough' casting at rates up to 138 units per hour.

The rough block is placed in the transfer machine and moved along through various sequential single operation workstations for operations such as milling, drilling and broaching, where it is machined to the required specification.

Hydraulic power to each machine is provided by a 30kW Parker power unit incorporating a Parker PVO 140 variable axial piston pump, running at a pressure of 70bar.

Engine block clamping and holding operations, and movement of milling and drilling heads throughout the machining process, are controlled by Parker HMI series hydraulic metric tie-rod cylinders and Parker CETOP hydraulic proportional and solenoid valves.

The power unit assemblies incorporate Parker EO2 soft seal fittings and hose, providing 'leak-free' technology, whilst Parker filtration units maintain fluid cleanliness levels.
