Hydraulic cylinders keep on injection
moulding

Parker Hannifin heavy duty tie rod cylinders are specified in plastic injection moulding machines manufactured by Billion in France.

Parker Hannifin heavy duty tie rod cylinders are specified within the hydraulic control systems of the Proxima and Hercule machine ranges, and in particular as the moving platen motion drive for the recently introduced Vulcan range of plastic injection moulding machines manufactured by Billion in France Quality, reliability and worldwide availability are the critical qualities demanded by Billion from component and systems suppliers

Billion manufactures plastic injection moulding machines from 80 to 2500t and has more than 100,000 in service around the world.

Billion's two platen technology Vulcan range, for example, comprises five models covering the range 1300 to 2500t.

Moving platen displacement speeds for all models is 1000mm/s.

Maximum push/pull forces are, respectively, 68,000 and 29,000daN.

Well-proven technology uses two parallel mounted Parker Hannifin heavy-duty NFPA series 2H hydraulic cylinders, connected by a crosshead, to advance and retract the closing unit.

They provide the motion force for the rapid opening and closing of the moving platen and associated tiebars, until the mould faces touch.

In an average application the cylinders operate at one cycle per minute, 24 hours a day, 320 days a year, thus achieving 460,000 cycles per year.

The working life demanded of such a cylinder is approximately 10,000,000 cycles.

A hydraulic power pack generates a working pressure of 170bar, with a maximum of 210bar available.

Unused energy is stored in accumulators creating a pressurised oil reserve, which is available instantaneously for use on demand by the machine.

Parker's Series 2H cylinders are available in bore sizes from 38 to 305mm and in 17 standard mounting styles.

Any practical stroke length can be supplied and the maximum operating pressure is up to 210bar.

Position sensors and deceleration devices (cushions) can be built in if required.

A number of piston seal options are available, including cast iron piston rings for extreme durability, Lipseal pistons for applications where load holding is critical and Hi-Load pistons which resist side loading and are recommended for long stroke cylinders.
