MMB heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders are specified for control functions on a second coil cut-to-length and multi-blanking line for the Coil Processing Division of Trident Steel in South Africa.

Parker Hannifin MMB heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders are specified for control functions on a second coil cut-to-length and multi-blanking line built by special purpose machine manufacturers, Heinrich Georg, for the Coil Processing Division of Trident Steel in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Coil Processing Division currently supplies most of South Africa's motor industry and white goods markets with their cut steel blanks.

Heinrich Georg has long been recognised as a premier OEM manufacturer of machines for the world's steel industries, which feature only the best engineered components and systems available.

The company delivered and commissioned the first line for Trident Steel - South Africa's most successful domestic steel merchant - in 1997.

Each line comprises 10 machines and is capable of handling steel and stainless steel with a strip thickness from 0.33 to 3.2mm at production speeds up to 100m/min.

The Trident Steel line allows master coils of steel to be divided down into narrower strips and cut-to-length to exact sizes for angled blanks (trapezoidal), ready for manufacture or assembly.

The line comprises machines for decoiling, slitting, shearing and stacking, and also has a scrap removal machine which takes scrap from both sides of the coil.

Each machine in the process has up to five hydraulic functions, each function being controlled by two Parker MMB hydraulic cylinders.

For example, Parker MMB cylinders control the roll gap and clamping systems on the feed and shearing machine.

On the scrap removal system, the MMB cylinders control the drive in and out, crusher roll up and down, and injection in and out movements.

Parker's MMB 160bar heavy-duty 'mill' cylinders are designed for use in arduous applications such as steel mills where a rugged durable cylinder with a clean external design is required, making them a natural choice for Heinrich Georg's slitting and packaging line.
