Keeping quiet wins award
Excellence award presented for the development of an innovative hydraulic power unit that has significantly reduced factory noise levels.
Parker Hannifin has become the first fluid power manufacturer supplying Ford Motor to receive the prestigious Henry Ford Manufacturing Excellence Award Presented for the development of an innovative hydraulic power unit that has significantly reduced factory noise levels, the award was made to Parker's motion and control division in Troy, Michigan, USA, which has worked closely with Ford since being appointed a single-source supplier in 2000

New series of Schrader pneumatic couplings
Parker Pneumatic has further extended its industry standard Schrader Range of quick acting pneumatic couplers with the introduction of the Euro Series.
Hydraulic power units are widely used throughout industry and typically need to be enclosed to reduce the level of factory noise.
Ford's goal was to reduce noise levels to 74dbA or lower but recognised that constructing enclosures was an expensive exercise, often costing between $15,000 and $20,000, including air circulation, ancillary systems and removable service panels.
Working alongside Ford's managers, Parker's sales and engineering team designed a hydraulic power unit capable of producing 6.8m3/hr at 105bar from a 30kW motor, but at a noise level of 70dbA.
The system is based on a positive head design, and uses standard off-the-shelf components, integrated pressure and return filtration and offline filtration.
The use of dry products technology such as Parker's Seal-Lok tube and hose fittings and the reduction of sealed joint faces to reduce leakage paths have eliminated the need for drip trays and have enabled Ford to reduce the frequency of its maintenance programmes from quarterly to yearly.
