Speedy Power recently took delivery of six portable compressed air dryer systems from Domnnick Hunter for use by Rolls Royce.

Speedy Power is part of the Speedy Hire group of companies.

Domnnick Hunter is a provider of filtration, purification and gas generation systems.

These bespoke compressed air dryer systems from Domnnick Hunter each comprise dual desiccant air dryers, water separators, pre and post filtration and after coolers.

Water separators from Domnnick Hunter remove 99.9% bulk water, air dryers then reduce moisture by increasing the dewpoint temperature to -40C.

The systems are installed inside robust trailer units situated inside a 16ft container built on a site tow, allowing for ease of access and providing a major benefit during site relocations.

The dryers will be used by Rolls Royce during a pipeline project.

They will then join the rest of the Speedy Power hire fleet for any application where clean dry air is required.

Likely future applications include pipeline drying, which forms part of an essential safety process before commissioning or decommissioning projects within the oil and gas, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries where safety legislation makes pressure testing obligatory.

There are a number of pressure testing methods available, one of the most common is to seal the pipeline and pressurise it with liquid water.

The drawback with this technique is that it leaves the pipeline wet, which can cause accelerated corrosion and risk hydrate formation.

Hydrates are solid crystals that can form when hydrocarbons and water combine under high pressure.

They can line the walls of pipes, reducing flow rates and capacity, they can even damage valves and cause blockages.

Purging pipelines with clean dry air after pressure testing ensures the integrity of safety processes.

Clean dry air also protects air tools from corrosion.

Domnnick Hunter also offers a comprehensive range of nitrogen gas generators that can be skid mounted and installed in trailer units when an inert purge is required for pipelines carrying flammable or volatile substances.
