Parker DuraDry membrane air dryers and 8000-series compressed air filters provide the protection required by today's high performance compressed air systems.
Compressed air is an important element in many systems onboard trains.
Braking systems, door operation, air suspension, pantograph raising and lowering can all depend on compressed air.
Poor quality compressed air can cause these systems to fail, resulting in inconvenience, extra expense and potential safety concerns.
Compressed air straight from a compressor will contain water, oil and dirt, which all combine to form a nasty abrasive sludge.
This often-acidic sludge will rapidly wear systems, block valves and orifices while also attacking the pipes distributing the compressed air supply.
Quite simply, the result is increased maintenance and increased system downtime which means greater expense.
Parker now offers the rail industry a route to avoid these problems, effectively treating the compressed air to remove contaminants and ensuring trouble free operation of compressed air systems.
A combination of high efficiency coalescing filters and membrane air dryers can provide treatment which will supply air that meets the ISO8573.1 air quality class 1.2.1; air of this quality is virtually oil and particulate free and has an extremely low dewpoint of -40C.

Integral filter life indicators ensure the optimum change-out time for the filter elements; the design provides for all-round visibility, whilst there's also the option of remote monitoring via reed switches.
Designed to allow for a modular approach should multistage filtration be required 8000-series filters can be connected with a compact clamp-kit.
This space saving feature means that these filters will require less space than other filter types, joined with lengths of pipework.
To make the integration and installation easier multistage filter configurations can be ordered ready assembled.
The theme of making things easier is continued with the bayonet closure of the housing with this there's no need for tools, just a simple time saving push and twist.

The design ensures a low pressure drop and high dirt holding capacity which plays a part in the low-cost of ownership of Parker's 8000-series.
Environmentally the Parker filter elements score points over more traditional designs.
With Parker's filter elements the structure is self-supporting, and so there's no need for the metal supporting core found in some elements.
This means less energy and materials are used in manufacturing and there are fewer problems with responsible disposal.
Removing the particulate, water and oil with Parker's 8000-series will provide clean air; however to prevent further condensation as the compressed air cools and the resulting condensate freezes in winter conditions the dewpoint must also be reduced.

Membrane air dryers do not require electricity to operate and have no moving parts to wear out.
Neither is there any desiccant to change and replace.
They're silent in operation and they eliminate the condensate discharge typical of refrigerant dryer technology.
The units are compact and can be easily mounted in the most convenient orientation.
The DuraDry desiccant dryer will be typically lighter and smaller than a desiccant unit offering a similar flow.
