Pavilion Technologies has announced that Sabic Europe, the fourth largest polyolefin producer in Europe, has extended the use of its polymer solution to two Unipol polypropylene lines.

Pavilion Technologies, a leader in advanced process control (APC) and environmental compliance solutions, has announced that Sabic Europe, the fourth largest polyolefin producer in Europe, has extended the use of its polymer solution to two Unipol polypropylene lines.

The award is based on the success of its first Pavilion project deployed in 2003 and a pilot of the new Pavilion8 software.

Sabic will leverage the new Pavilion8-based polymer control solution to maximise throughput.

To date, Pavilion's polymer solutions have been deployed on 71 polymer lines and 91 reactors.

"To meet our goal of being number one in Europe, we continue to focus on increasing our capacity and reducing costs", said Sabic Europe's Polypropylene Plant Manager, Achim Schempp.

"Pavilion's polymer control solution has consistently helped us meet these key business objectives".

"Our expansion of the new Pavilion8-based applications to these two additional lines will further enhance our competitive position".

As part of its participation on Pavilion's Customer Advisory Council, Sabic secured early access to Pavilion8, Pavilion's software suite for advanced process control, production performance management and compliance.

Leveraging a service-oriented architecture, Pavilion8-based applications come pre-configured with production, cost and capacity performance metrics reducing the need for additional third-party software and the total cost of ownership for the customer.

Pavilion8 enables Sabic to track, at a glance, application uptime and deviation of actual-to-plan for key production performance metrics.

In addition, a production replay capability allows for quick troubleshooting and improved performance.

Localised in German, Pavilion8's role-based interface allows managers to evaluate real-time plant performance from their office, avoiding off-line analysis and reporting delays.

Sabic Europe's Gelsenkirchen plants produce 500kt of polypropylene annually through the operation of one Innovene Gas phase plant and two Unipol Gas phase plants.

To increase production and enhance product quality, Sabic deployed Pavilion's polymer solution on the Innovene line in 2003.

As a result of the project it has increased first class prime production by 4.5%, improved product consistency by 35%, decreased reactor variability by 30%, and reduced lab frequency by 50%.

Based on its history of success, SABIC expects a return on investment for the two Unipol lines within some months.

"We are committed to delivering next generation products that meet the needs of our customers and helps fortify their competitive position", said Pavilion Technologies CEO, Ralph Carter.

"Sabic's selection of our new Pavilion8-based polymer solution is an endorsement of our ability to deliver high-value products to our customers".

Pavilion's polymer solution enables polymer producers to reduce variable costs, enhance product quality, increase production rate, and achieve environmental compliance.

Polymer applications include reaction, extruder and silo control.

Pavilion's polymer customers can flexibly respond to changing market demands in the face of increasingly higher operating costs, rising raw material costs and tougher competition.
