With a powerful modelling engine at its core, Pavilion8 version 2.0 boasts new modelling capabilities, enhanced web service integration and a new metadata warehouse.

Pavilion Technologies has announced version 2.0 of its Pavilion8 software platform.

Leveraging a powerful modelling engine at its core, Pavilion8 version 2.0 boasts new modelling capabilities, enhanced web service integration and a new metadata warehouse.

In addition, two new Pavilion8-based applications - Real-time Environmental Management and Production Performance Management - will now compliment the existing process optimisation and control applications.

These Pavilion applications enable manufacturers to improve operational profitability by increasing production capacity, reducing production costs, improving product quality and reducing environmental risk.

First introduced in 2005, Pavilion8 is a modular software platform based on a modern service-oriented architecture (SOA) and implemented in J2EE.

Key new capabilities provided in version 2.0 include the following.

The Pavilion8 Model Analytic Engine has been enhanced to define and deploy composite models that aggregate and extend existing empirical, first-principle, arithmetic and rule-based models including those from other vendors.

A new functional module, the Pavilion8 Metadata Warehouse, aggregates and stores time-series data within an operational context to a secure database providing a permanent system of record for production and compliance information generated by Pavilion8 applications.

The Pavilion8 Integration module has been enhanced, enabling seamless integration with ERP applications, data warehouses, historians, distributed control systems and other heterogeneous data sources.

The fully J2EE-compliant web services interface provides portability and simplifies deployment throughout the organisation with its secure, scalable architecture.

The Pavilion8 Monitor module has been extended to continuously assess key process and environmental variables based on targets or limits; this module provides instant notification to specified recipients.

These alerts may be set against both real-time and predicted variables enabling proactive response to key production, quality and environmental conditions.

The platform's scalability, flexibility and ease of integration with existing business and plant infrastructure provide a lower total cost of ownership than alternative technologies.

Pavilion8 is the only platform in the market today that offers a model-based architecture that allows the same process models to be used in control, environmental and production performance management applications.

"The latest release of Pavilion8 demonstrates Pavilion's commitment to developing innovative solutions around its core modelling technologies and expertise that helps achieve collaborative manufacturing", said ARC Advisory Group Senior Analyst, Tom Fiske.

"The integration of production performance management, environmental compliance and model predictive control on one platform provides its customers with opportunities to achieve significant value".

Pavilion8 version 2.0 powers three classes of applications that enhance production and environmental performance for global manufacturers.

Not only are manufacturers forced to comply with increasingly stringent governmental emissions regulations, many are seeking to reduce compliance complexities, costs, risks and capitalise on emissions trading programs.

Pavilion8-powered environmental applications include proven Predictive Emissions Monitoring (PEM) and Real-time Environmental Management (REM).

Pavilion8 REM provides a flexible, scalable solution to meet a wide range of predictive emissions, emissions monitoring and compliance reporting requirements.

Proven in more than 210 installations, PEM uses the powerful Pavilion8 model analytic engine and the patented sensor validation system to ensure regulatory compliance with unparalleled accuracy and reliability.

Pavilion's Production Performance Management (PPM) applications provide instantaneous and predictive assessment of plant production performance to enable proactive decision-making.

Leveraging the Pavilion8 Model Analytic Engine, PPM uses production process models that more accurately represent current and future operational performance than simple arithmetic calculation techniques.

Version 2.0 of Pavilion8 provides further enhancements to Pavilion's proven Model Predictive Control (MPC) technology, which powers the company's industry-specific control applications.

Key enhancements include embedded controller performance metrics for all variables, automatic controller parameter change logs and historisation of controller trajectories.

The new capabilities provide greater diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities, ensuring faster application deployment and greater uptime.

Pavilion received the Frost and Sullivan 2006 Emerging Company of the Year in the field of advanced process control and automation, a testament to Pavilion's innovation in this field.

Since its release a year ago, Pavilion8 has enabled Pavilion's customers worldwide to reach new levels of manufacturing performance.

Industry-leading customers in the cement, chemicals, consumer products, ethanol, minerals, and polymers segments have reported demonstrable benefits since implementing Pavilion8-powered solutions.
