Handheld unit measures heat transfer

A Pangaea Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 4, 2006

A fully portable heat flux detection system measures relative heat losses through structural components.

A fully portable heat flux detection system has been introduced by Pangaea Technology for the measurement of relative heat losses through structural components following an exclusive European agreement with specialist sensor manufacturer ITI Corp.

With an increasing emphasis on energy conservation and the need to determine heat transfer characteristics, the handheld HB-100 unit measures total heat flow either to or from any solid surface to which the transducer is attached.

It is ideal for on-site measurement of heat flow such as industrial heat loss measurements, building insulation conformance tests and refrigeration insulation tests.

The system can also calculate K factors of walls or other insulated barriers and is capable of directly measuring heat fluxes from 0 to 2000W/m2 with system accuracy of +/- 5%.

The probe has a temperature range of -80 to +300C.

The sensors are a multi-element, semiconductor thermopile consisting of thousands of thermoelectric elements.

These generate a signal directly proportional to the magnitude and direction of the heat flux which is then recorded and displayed.
