Palm portable HMI for controller interfacing

A PBE Systems product story

Putting an HMI in your pocket as the most convenient way to access PLC data.

Putting an HMI in your pocket is the most convenient way to access PLC data - the PBE PocketHMI portable user interface is based on the popular Palm organiser.

This low-cost and simple, yet powerful hand-held touchscreen device provides the functionality to read and write specific memory addresses in a target PLC or monitor selected data points on a polled basis.

Connection to the PLC is made through a simple serial communications cable, giving an immediate picture of what is happening inside the controller.

At just 120 x 80 x 15mm thick, the battery-driven HMI is easy to hold and operate, and slips into a shirt pocket.

It is initially available for use with all makes of Modbus PLC including Modicon/Schneider, plus those from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, GE Fanuc and PLC Direct with additional compatibility in the pipeline.

Help screens are available at all times for ease of use, while spreadsheets assist with such things as addresses and scaling calculations, and a memo function records device settings, timer and PID values.

The PocketHMI will prove equally useful for plant engineers and maintenance staff or OEMs and system integrators.

Personnel can check out any PLC in a plant where a proprietary HMI is not available and carrying a laptop is not practical, while an OEM could mount a unit on every machine as a very cost effective off-the-shelf hardware platform that is easy to maintain and replace.
