Wallchart covers adhesives for engineering applications from sealing pipes, retaining bearings, threadlocking and gasketting to bonding rubbers, plastics and metals.
Surface activator keeps bonds clean
A novel surface activator for cyanoacrylate adhesives can be used to banish white powdery residue, or blooming.
The adhesives are high-strength and are for bonding glass or acrylic to metal and other materials.
Their elongation characteristics make them adept at coping with differential thermal expansion stresses between glass and metal.
UV620 is optically clear and non-yellowing to give a finish that will stand the test of time.
Using UV-curable adhesive is easy, the adhesive remains liquid until cured with a UV lamp, allowing the user ample time to assemble components and make any adjustments to align parts accurately.
For mirrored glass such as for bathroom cabinets, Permabond offers a dual UV and anaerobic cure adhesive.
Flat-backed metal hinges can be bonded to the rear of the mirror so the front is unspoilt by visible hinges or studs.
The hinges are secured in place with UV7141 which is semi-cured in seconds via exposure to UV light around the edges of the joint.
The anaerobic cure mechanism automatically activates in the shadow areas of the joint to form a high strength, durable bond.
The product has passed British Standards accelerated ageing humidity tests.
Similar products can be used to bond U-shaped aluminium channels to edges of glass.
A popular application where UV-curable adhesives are often found is bevel bonding for glass windows.
For this application, Permabond offers optically clear adhesives which can be secured in place with UV light but will allow easy clean-up of excess adhesive outside of the joint.
For acrylic bonding, Permabond produce several products with a slightly different cure wavelength.
This is because plastics are usually UV stabilised to prevent ageing, but this blocks UV light from reaching the uncured adhesive inside the joint, so normal glass bonding UV-curables may have difficulty curing through plastics.
UV630 has demonstrated performance on acrylic, by producing high-strength bonds which, when tested to destruction, show substrate failure of acrylic sections up to 10mm thick. Request a free brochure from Permabond ...
