The new Servocell Active Latch module - the AL2 - has a wealth of new features to ensure higher security, more reliability and greater functionality.
Available now, the AL2 is the smallest module in Servocell's Active Latch range and can be easily integrated into almost any kind of lock.
By bridging the gap between the best access control available and physical security, the AL2 makes the humble cabinet lock as safe as a vault.
The problem with for example cabinet or desk drawer locks, so far was that most people didn't use these locks, as it was too inconvenient to lock it every time they leave the room.
With Servocell's technology users can connect the electronic lock over a wireless network to an office access card and it will automatically lock and unlock when entering or leaving the room.
Opportunities for usage reach from secure access to rooms or cabinets in hospitals to schools or governmental buildings.
"The AL2 being more reliable and more flexible in applications will increase the opportunities within the worldwide market", says Simon Powell, Managing Director Servocell.
"Its small size alone provides us with a whole range of potential new applications such as padlocks, portable devices and for automotive purposes".
The main factor why most facilities are still equipped with conventional and not electronic locks is cost.
The AL2 addresses this issue in two areas.
Its use can reduce the cost of an electronic lock and the costs of the power it consumes over its lifetime, particularly if it is operating under battery power.
In addition it gives the possibility to engage every single lock with an existing LAN network and control each of them over the same network too.
Servocell has developed new design features to improve performance under extreme conditions.
In addition to enhanced vibration resistance, the normally blocked construction will remain locked after high temperature damage.
The new device has been designed with challenging environments in mind, making it an ideal solution for outdoor applications or areas with high humidity, such as lockers in indoor swimming pools.
Plunger stroke is 3mm as standard, giving a very clear switching behaviour.
As with the AL1c and AL1cR, the AL2 has no onboard electronics, which lets OEMs use their own circuit boards, saving development time and costs.
