Procon Engineering has received a DTI award as part of the DTI's Electronics Design Programme.

Procon Engineering has received a DTI award as part of the DTI's Electronics Design Programme.

The award was presented by Dr Tim Reynoldson from the DTI to Procon's Technical Manager, Mark Hopkins, for the company's implementation of a customised electronic chip in its EP50 Proweigher batch controller.

The chip, which was developed in conjunction with The University of Kent, provides super-efficient processing for this control and automation product.

The EP50 can control batching, loss in weight and beltweighing equipment, all using the same hardware platform.

The unit incorporates user definable, bi-directional serial ports with a choice of protocols as standard.

Modbus supervisory control also comes as an option, which can be converted to integrate with other industry standard bus systems including Profibus and DeviceNet.

Hopkins subsequently addressed the DTI Electronics Design to Win seminar held at the DTI Conference Centre in December 2002.
