Pro-Lite Technology has reached an agreement with InfraRed Associates to distribute that company's range of mercury cadmium telluride (HgCdTe) infra-red detectors throughout the UK and Ireland.

Also known as MCT detectors, the devices are used extensively in analytical instruments and for monitoring infra-red radiation 1-25um wavelength.

InfraRed Associates has extensive experience in fabricating MCT detectors and arrays from 2 to 120 elements in a large variety of custom configurations including linear, staggered, offset, cross etc.

Elements as small as 25 x 25um with 13um spacing can be provided with uniform radiometric characteristics.

Arrays can be tailored in wavelength response from 1 to 25um and supplied with custom electronics.

MCT detectors can be supplied with TE coolers, liquid nitrogen dewars or Stirling microcoolers.

A low noise preamplifier is also available matched to customers' requirements.

The Stirling "Ricor" cooler is an alternative to conventional liquid nitrogen dewars and is driven by a silent, high reliability DC brushless motor.

Cool-down time is only a few minutes to 80K.

Total weight is only 450g and input power typically 7W.

Pro-Lite also offers InSb/HgCdTe two-colour infra-red "sandwich" detectors constructed using two layers - the upper InSb element responds 1-5.5um, whereas the lower HgCdTe element, looking through the upper element, responds between 5.5 and 12.5um.

These dual-band detectors are offered to scientists looking for a single packaged detector that can monitor wavelengths from 1 up to 25um.
