Three technologies into one sensor does
go

A novel sensor family offers a choice of three different optical technologies - infra-red, visible red and VCSEL - in the same common package This gives the design engineer tremendous flexibility for using this family across a variety of applications including barcode readers and point of sale printers

Manufactured by Optek Technology, the OPB608 family of reflective object sensors can be supplied with a phototransistor and either an 890nm infra-red led, 660nm visible red LED or 850nm VCSEL.

The phototransistor responds to radiation from the emitter only when a reflective object passes within its field of view By using these different technologies the device offers a solution to almost any reflective application up to 2in and enables detection of a variety of reflective objects including any infra-red material, polished steel and white and thermal paper.

Using Optek's proven infra-red LED technology the OPB608A, B and C can recognise objects between 1.3 and 10mm from the front emitting surface.

The visible red version, OPB608R is ideal for reading barcodes or other marks on thermally sensitive paper on distances between 1.3 and 8mm.

With the OPB608V using VCSEL technology, not only does the accuracy of the device increase, the sensing distance also increases up to 51mm, while at the same time consuming far less power than a normal LED.

In fact it has nearly four times the usable reflective distance of a comparably powered LED, which is an important consideration in battery-powered applications. Request a free brochure from Pacer International ...
