Software gets to grip with the PED
Pedcat has upgraded its successful Pressure Equipment Directive analysis software PEDHelp.
The products are manufactured from stainless steel tubing to ASME B 31.3 with welding to ASME IX codes.
The first step was a full product and company design/manufacturing method audit and determination of product categories.
Once completed, an analysis of the proposed production numbers/schedule allowed a cost benefit analysis to be conducted for a range of PED conformity assessment modules.
The result of this work was a detailed strategic and implementation report to the company.
The company decided that rather than attempt to implement the PED module and construct all the essential technical documentation it would contract Pedcat to provide a one-stop-shop solution.
This solution involved Pedcat first identifying and appointing an appropriate notified body - Velosi Certification Bureau.
The next step involved visiting the company, drawing together the technical file, undertaking product hazard analysis, producing materials verification documents and identification of how all essential safety requirements were met via the ASME codes or via other solutions.
The use of Pedcat's standard technical file format, checklists and other documentation meant that files were able to be constructed in less than two days.
Velosi Certification was extremely responsive and carried its essential inspection visits, welder requalifications and technical file reviews within days, bringing the project to fruition within two weeks.
Phase Dynamics products are now fully PED compliant and CE marked for use within the EEA.
